This week I gave an 'Ignite' presentation at the annual Western Australian Fogarty Foundation Postgraduate Research Forum. The 'Ignite' sessions provide the opportunity for researchers to give a five minute presentation followed by seven minutes of discussion. Given my interest in the current PhD process, and potential future changes, I took the opportunity to ask the education-focussed researchers about their opinions on the best way to develop researchers through a PhD. A summary of this interaction can be found on my blog.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Forum, in particular the opportunity to hear more from education researchers and think about the way their research could be applied to my own teaching practice. If I teach Climate Change Policy and Planning again I will definitely be rolling out the 'Toulmin Model of Argumentation'!
